Announcement: Editorial Developments at SCECO

17.07.2026

Studies and Scientific Researches. Economics Edition (SCECO) is entering a new phase, and we would like to share several developments with our authors, reviewers, and readers.

A broadened scope

SCECO now focuses on the economics of emerging and transition economies, with a particular emphasis on Central and Eastern Europe. Alongside our core CEE focus, we welcome high-quality work on other emerging and developing regions where it offers clear comparative relevance to the wider development and transition debate. Our updated Aims & Scope reflects this direction.

A strengthened editorial process

We have reinforced our editorial and peer-review procedures to further safeguard the quality and integrity of published research. This includes a clearer double-blind review workflow, updated publication ethics and AI policies in line with COPE guidance, and closer technical screening of submissions. Full details are available on our Peer Review and Publication Ethics pages.

Continuous publication and Online First

To serve authors and readers better, SCECO is adopting Online First publication. Accepted articles are now assigned a DOI and made freely available as soon as they are ready, ahead of their inclusion in a specific issue. Manuscripts are accepted on a continuous basis and assigned to an issue upon completion.

This means our forthcoming Issue 43 will be populated as articles complete peer review and are accepted, rather than held back until a fixed date. Readers can expect the first Online First articles for this issue in the coming weeks, with the issue closing later in 2026.

An invitation

We warmly invite submissions aligned with our scope, and we welcome researchers interested in joining our reviewer community. SCECO remains a Diamond Open Access journal — free to publish, free to read, under a CC BY 4.0 license.

For questions, submissions, or to express interest in reviewing, please contact the editorial office at sceco@ub.ro.
